“I’m not a policeman, I’m not Sherlock Holmes”

El Khabar, 1 march 2008

Al-Akhdar Al-Ibrahimi will start the week ahead the mission of protection of UN offices and staff worldwide from potential terrorist attacks. He insinuated that Algeria is to be the first step, refusing to impute his mission “Sherlock Holmes” task.

The Former foreign affairs minister held yesterday a press conference in New York. He unveiled that he is to start working, with his task force made up of six people, a Sweden, an Egyptian, a Hindi, a South African an a Turkish, next week. He stated “Some see the UN as an enemy and thus a target to potential attacks for it is impartial.”

Al-Ibrahimi said that his team will examine accurately what happened in Algeria and will draw lessons from this sad incident, namely the 12/11 twin bombs in Algiers. The task force will look for the security gaps before the attack. Yet it will not point the blame finger to any party, be it at the UN or the Algerian government.

The Algerian diplomat further made clear “I do not prefer the term “investigation”, “I’m not a policeman. I’m not Sherlock Holmes.” He underscored.
